The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is a federal ministry with executive authority over the formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to housing and urban development in India. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri was given the office of the same in May 2019. The missions running under his leadership have not only led to the development of Urban Infrastructure, be it better water supply, sanitation, housing for all but also have pioneered the use of data, technology and innovation in the planning and management of cities. These missions played an important role during the COVID-19 pandemic as well. Like the Vande Bharat Mission which was personally overlooked by Shri Hardeep Puri for bringing stranded Indians back home. The missions which he has taken under his wing are part of a visionary agenda for urban rejuvenation and were designed as part of a multi-layer strategy to meet the aspirations of 40% of India’s population living in cities. There are multiple missions that are currently being run by the ministry.
Taking charge of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas from July 2021, Hon’ble Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri succeeds Shri Dharmendra Pradhan as India's new Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister. Concerned with the exploration and production of the Oil and Natural Gas, The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas also looks after refining, distribution and marketing, import, export and conservation of petroleum products. Oil and Gas being important import for the country's economy and given Shri Hardeep Puri’s experience, the prime focus of the ministry under him will be to increase domestic production of crude oil and natural gas and help the country become ‘Atmanirbhar’. Looking out for the future of the country he believes in using clean fuel and also to generate a gas based economy for which he will focus on it’s availability as well.
