Berhampur emerged as the cleanest city in the state for the third time in a row. The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) ranked top among the towns in Odisha and 56th in the country in the Swachh Sarvekshan-2021.
According to the reports, the BeMC was awarded the Swachh City award for topping in the Best Medium City in Innovation and Best Practices (3-10 lakh population) category for the second consecutive year. A team of officials of the civic body, led by Ganjam collector Vijay Amruta Kulange and BeMC commissioner Siddheshwar Baliram Bondare, received the prestigious award from Union minister for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on the occasion of Swachh Amrit Mahotsav, held in New Delhi.
Further, the report added that Berhampur ranked 63rd and 216th at the national level in 2020 and 2019 respectively while ranking first in Odisha in these years.
