India is staring at a catastrophe as a large population is facing acute scarcity of water. This has prompted the organisers of the seventh edition of National Conference of Resident Welfare Associations to adopt water conservation as the theme of the conference.
The conference, going to be held in Delhi this weekend, is being organised by the Confederation of Resident Welfare Associations, in collaboration with Confederation of NCR Resident Welfare Associations, on November 16 and 17.
Hardeep Singh Puri, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, will be an honorary guest at the two-day event.
Elaborating on the theme of the conference, TP Tyagi, chief convener of the organising committee, said that this issue (water conservation) needs to be treated as an emergency. "A severe water crisis is looming over the country, especially in metro cities. If we don't act now at the policy level, we would be facing a huge water crisis in days to come," he warned.
Since water conservation figures on top of the agenda of the Central government, we shall take up issues related to various other civic problems for discussion at the event besides the water crisis.
"We will also hold sessions to discuss solid waste management, pollution, Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), encroachment free footpaths, demand for constitutional rights of the RWAs etc," informed Tyagi.
Besides, the RWAs and bureaucrats will be felicitated for their path-breaking work on the development of their respective areas.
"We have shortlisted three bureaucrats who have worked in Delhi-NCR and 18 RWAs across the country for the felicitation. A ceremony would be held for this purpose during the event," Tyagi said.
