Deliberated on the future of India’s urban planning under leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji, with stakeholders of sustainable urban development, including town & country planners, government officials, & partners at National Conclave on Urban Planning today.Due to criminal neglect of urban development, only ₹1.78 lakh cr were invested in urbanisation between 2004 to 2014. But Modi Govt has spent more than ₹18 lakh cr in last 9 years on upgrading critical urban infrastructure while mainstreaming climate change, gender & heritage. Ambitious, large-scale schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban, Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT) & Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, have fundamentally altered the urban development paradigm. In the last 2 years, attention has been given to implementing urban planning reforms, especially to make cities attractive destinations for investments. Reforms have been incentivised & prioritised. States have benefitted by funds received for undertaking urban planning reforms. As we aim to build an inclusive, resilient, & sustainable urban form that can support the aspirations of the country. I am confident that deliberations at the two-day conclave will throw up lots of good ideas.
