Indus Dictum | Construction of 96.5 lakh PMAY-U houses approved: MoS Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri

Addressing the Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) yesterday, Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State (MoS) for Housing & Urban Affairs, spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), stating that it seeks to provide houses to all eligible families and beneficiaries by 2022.

4,421 cities and towns have been covered under the Mission, Puri shared, adding that of the validated demand of 1.12 crore houses, construction of 96.5 lakh houses involving Central assistance of Rs. 1.51 lakh crore has been approved.

Puri said that Central assistance of Rs 57,914 crore has been released out of budgetary allocations and Extra Budgetary Resources (EBR), and more than 57 lakh houses have been grounded, of which construction of about 29 lakh is complete.

As part of PMAY-U a technology sub-mission envisaging adoption of modern, innovative, disaster resistant and green technologies for various geo-climatic zones has been launched.

24 Emerging Technologies have been identified, evaluated and promoted under the Mission. Over 14 lakh houses are being constructed using these technologies all over the country, the Minister revealed.

Puri had earlier welcomed all MPs of the Consultative Committee attached to the MoHUA and stated that the Government is implementing Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart Cities Mission (SCM), Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) and Metro Rails. He said that these complement each other helping the all-round development of cities.

The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament, M V V Satyanaraya, Ramcharan Bohra, Abir Ranjan Biswas, Rajmani Patel, KTS Tulsi, and Sanjay Singh.

Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, MoHUA, and senior officers of the Ministry also attended the meeting. Mishra gave an overall view of various missions of the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. This was followed by presentations by the respective Mission Directors about their missions.
