Visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Amritsar today. Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu received Justin Trudeau at the Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport today in Amritsar.

TRUDEAU IN AMRITSAR: 10 THINGS TO KNOW
Meeting between CM Amarinder Singh and PM Trudeau is the highlight of the day. Earlier, Punjab CM Singh had posted a photograph on Twitter saying, "On my way to Amritsar for an one-to-one meeting with Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau."
There had been uncertainty about a meeting between Justin Trudeau and Captain Amarinder Singh. The meeting was confirmed only after what was described as "snub" by the Indian government to the visiting Canadian prime minister on his arrival and first two days of his tour. The meeting will take at a hotel in Amritsar.
Following confirmation of the meeting, Amarinder Singh wrote on Twitter: "Look forward to meeting Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau in Amritsar on Wednesday. I'm hopeful that this meeting will help strengthen the close Indo-Canadian business ties as well as the deep-rooted people-to-people relations between our two countries."
Amarinder Singh had refused to meet Trudeau's close cabinet colleague and Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, the first Sikh Defence Minister of a Western country, during a visit to Punjab in April last year.
Amarinder Singh had labelled Sajjan and other Canadian Ministers of Indian origin as "Khalistani sympathisers". Sajjan and three other Canadian federal ministers of Punjab origin are travelling with Trudeau during the visit.
Justin Trudeau will also visit the recently inaugurated Partition Museum. However, Trudeau will skip a visit to the Jallianwala Massacre Memorial during his three and a half-hour stay in the city. Trudeau arrived in Amritsar from Mumbai and would leave for New Delhi this afternoon.
Tight security was put in place in and around Amritsar for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to the Golden Temple complex. Government security agencies and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) officials were busy yesterday trying to ensure the visit to the Sikh shrine went without hindrance or controversy as they suspected that radical Sikhs might seek to rake up the issue of a separate Sikh homeland "Khalistan".
According to police sources, Trudeau earlier asked local authorities to let him and his family, including three minor children, to enjoy the spirituality of the Golden Temple during the visit.
Hundreds of personnel of Punjab Police and other security agencies were stationed at the Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, and on the road from the airport to the Golden Temple complex and other areas Trudeau was expected to visit.
Trudeau is on an eight-day visit to India. His visit to Harmandar Sahib to offer prayers holds political and social significance in Canada as that country has a substantial Indian diaspora, a majority of them from Punjab.
