Within the next three months, all domestic gas cylinders will have a QR code, Indian Oil (IOCL) Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya said. On the occasion of World LPG Week 2022, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that this is a revolutionary change, as consumers will be able to track LPG cylinders. Customers can get complete information about the cylinder through QR code. 

For example, where the cylinder has been refilled. What safety tests are carried out with regard to cylinders. All information regarding this can be understood. Meanwhile, the QR code will be pasted through the label on the existing cylinder, while it will be welded on the new cylinder. In the first phase, 20 thousand LPG cylinders with embedded QR codes have been issued under the unit code-based track. Meanwhile, a QR code is a type of barcode, which can be read by a digital device. 

Hardeep Singh Puri said that QR code will be installed on all 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders in the next three months. Also, availability of clean cooking fuel for rural households in the country was a major challenge before the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Hardeep Singh Puri also said that after the launch of the ambitious Ujjwala scheme of the central government, the villagers have got relief.
