Mahipalpur underpass on Delhi-Gurugram e-way opens

NEW DELHI: Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri mocked the working style of Delhi government on Thursday while suggesting that one project of the PWD deserves to qualify for the Guinness Book of World Records for slowest pace of construction, in an obvious reference to the ongoing construction of the RTR flyover in south Delhi.
Addressing a public function after opening the Mahipalpur underpass across the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Puri said, "The project I am referring to is located close to my earlier residence. The work has been going for years. The annual progress of work could be construction of about 400-450 yards. It's perfect one to find place in the Guinness Book of World Records."

Drawing a parallel, the minister said the Mahipalpur underpass project started by his housing and urban affairs ministry was completed in less than 400 days and its construction wing, CPWD has saved Rs 26 crore.
The underpass project, which provides direct connectivity from Vasant Kunj to Aerocity, will make the drive seamless and will also help reduce the traffic jam on the road passing through Mahipalpur village. This road will benefit about 28,000 commuters daily and will also lead to saving of about 14,000 man hours daily.
Puri also took a swipe at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for only assuring him to take the necessary steps, but never acting on them. "CM is a good friend of mine. He met me several times after I became minister. He used to tell me he would clear the proposals 'next week' when I took up issues relating to DMRC Phase-IV and the RRTS projects with him and he took more than 18 months to act on them. AAP government approved the DMRC Phase-IV project with some conditions. I commit to you that we will do this project very soon irrespective of their stand," the minister said.
