Mandi Gobindgarh first in ‘Best Self Sustainable City'

Mandi Gobindgarh has bagged many awards in the 50,000 to one lakh population category in Swachh Survekshan-2021, results of which were announced recently.

The town got the 1st rank in the North Zone category of ‘Best Self Sustainable City’, 2nd rank in ‘Cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation awareness’ and ‘Solid waste processing’ and got the 1st rank in ‘Garbage-free cities’ of Star Rating-3.

The awards were given during the “Swachh Amrit Mahotsav” function held in Delhi. The awards were presented by the President of India, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and Union Minister of State Kaushal Kishore. Harpreet Singh Prince, president, Municipal Council, Mandi Gobindgarh, accompanied by Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary Local Government, Punjab, Dr Naresh Kumar, Assistant Director, PMIDC, along with other officials received the awards.

Addressing mediapersons, Harpreet Singh Prince said that it was a great moment not only for the town but for the district and the state. He said despite facing difficulties during the pandemic, the staff worked hard and deserved congratulation for this achievement. He congratulated the residents for extending full cooperation to the council in maintaining cleanliness and to make city garbage-free. The residents will continue to maintain the momentum and hope to get more awards, he further added.
