There is immense scope for cooperation between India and the US in the areas of biofuels, green hydrogen, petrochemicals and manufacturing, Petroleum and Natural Gas and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday. Puri said India and the US have decided on concrete areas of cooperation.

"India is more conscious of adopting green energy than any other country in the world," Puri told guests invited at a reception hosted by Consul General of India Aseem Mahajan at his residence in Houston. There is a special emphasis on green hydrogen, biofuel blending and biofuel exploration and production from alternative sources.

“As part of the Strategic Green Energy Partnership signed between the US President and the Indian Prime Minister in 2021, we have signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), and these agreements pertain to concrete areas where Indian and American companies can work together,” Puri said. He launched the Special CBM (Coal Seam Gas) Bidding Round - 2022 for International Competitive Bidding in Houston on Monday.

Simultaneously, Puri initiated the offshore bidding round, in which 26 blocks have been offered.

Addressing the industry people, he spoke about the initiatives taken by the government to accelerate the exploration and production activities in India.

Puri also spoke on the importance of coal bed methane in increasing India's domestic production and reducing the import burden.

India is the world's third largest energy consumer, and energy demand is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years.

The Minister said that in view of the demand, price and rising import bill, the production of domestic gas is very important.
