News On Air | Active domestic LPG consumers increase to 31.36 crore

The government has informed that the active domestic LPG  consumers have increased from 14.52 crore  in April 2014 to 31.36 crore so far. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the price of non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinder in May 2014 was 928 rupees 50 paise per cylinder and form 1st of this  month,  its reretail selling price in  Delhi is 1103 rupees per cylinder. He informed that the effective price for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, PMUY consumers is 903 rupees per cylinder.

Mr Puri said under the direct benefit transfer for LPG scheme, subsidy amount equal to the difference between retail selling price and subsidized price of the domestic cylinder is deposited in the account of eligible beneficiaries.  He said the government has also started a targeted subsidy of 200 rupees per cylinder for PMUY beneficiaries for upto 12 refills for the current fiscal. The Union Minister informed that House that  Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies, OMCs have suffered huge losses on sale of domestic LPG and  to compensate these losses, the government has recently paid a one-time compensation of 22 thousand crore rupees to OMCs.
