News on Air | India is all set to achieve 20% biofuel blending within next 2 years as against 2030 target: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri today said the country is all set to achieve 20% biofuel blending within the next 2 years as against the 2030 target for achieving the same. He was inaugurating the 15th edition of Urban Mobility India conference in Kochi today.

The Minister noted that ten percent biofuel blending resulted in a saving of 40,000 Crore rupees for the country last year.

Noting that 60 million people go to petrol pumps every day for filling their vehicles with fuel, he said the country’s fuel consumption of 5 million barrels of crude oil per day is likely to rise to  7 million barrels per day within the next few years. The Minister said the global growth rate of fuel demand is one percent while that of India is about three percent.

Addressing the inaugural event through video conferencing, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said his government is keen on transforming the public transport system in the entire state and stressed the need for making it equitable, affordable, and sustainable.

Experts of drawn from different parts of the country and abroad are taking part in the three-day conference.
