The Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 and Lajpat Nagar routes of the Pink Line of Delhi Metro were opened for the public on Monday. This section was flagged off by Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Union Minister Hardeep Puri. With the operation of the Metro on this route, Hazrat Nizamuddin became the second major transport hub in Delhi after Anand Vihar. The Metro station has entry and exit gates on both sides of Saraikale Khan Inter-State Bus Stand and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Stations. Most of the trains to South India operate from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.

A Delhi Metro official told IANS that there will be an entry-exit within a radius of 50 meters from the Saraikale Khan ISBT. The second entry-exit will be at a distance of about 150 meters from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. This Metro corridor is part of the 59-km-long Pink Line Metro route that connects Shiv Vihar with Majlis Park. This is the third and last metro line to open this year, with the remaining two being operational first.

The Metro has adorned the Nizamuddin station with 30 artefacts, which also have windows depicting the historical heritage. The smallest station on this route will be Ashram Metro Station, which is built on an area of 152 sqm instead of the average 265 sqm for a metro station. The official said that due to difficulties in the way of land acquisition, the station was built in less than average area. Apart from this, due to the construction of the proposed underpass on the Ring Road by the PWD, the size of the station also got reduced.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will inaugurate this metro route at 11 am on Monday.
