India would be prepared to apply E20 regulations by the end of this year or the very beginning of the next, ahead of the previously announced timeframe. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri made the announcement. E20 denotes a specific type of fuel. This kind is a mixture of 20% ethanol produced from organic sources and 80% gasoline distilled from crude oil. In the Indian markets, a 10% ethanol blend is currently offered.

He said that India has reached the necessary level of ethanol production to begin the 20% blending. “We are continuously evaluating the ethanol production, and I anticipate that 20% blended fuel will hit the market in December or January of this year rather than April of 2023. (target). A significant meeting with automakers will be held to discuss ethanol blending, “the minister noted.

He cited Brazil as an example, where consumers can choose between ethanol and gasoline in flex-fuel vehicles. He claimed that this would be the government’s ultimate objective. He claims that certain technological requirements are in place, nevertheless, and that work is still being done to get there.

He continued, “We are going to have a significant discussion with automakers on ethanol blending.”

The ultimate goal is to blend 20% of all the gasoline sold in the nation by the year 2025. The deadline might get closer if more bio-ethanol producing plants are built across the country. This mix was scheduled to hit the market by the middle of 2023 prior to this announcement.
