The Economic Times | India Energy Week 2023: Minister Hardeep Singh Puri gives thumbs up to Chef Ranveer Brar’s "millet khichdi" cooked on solar stove

At India Energy Week 2023, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri complimented Chef Ranveer Brar's millet "khichdi," which he prepared on an indoor solar cooktop in a record seven minutes, saying that it was "faster than pasta."

Given that India is spearheading the plans for the International Year of Millets 2023, the dish was chosen to support government efforts to encourage the production and consumption of millets.

After tasting the meal, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri tweeted that Chef Brar had described how the energy-efficient Solar Cooktop is ideal for Indian cuisine and produces the greatest aroma.

Prime Minister Modi unveiled the indoor solar cooking burner from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on February 7 during India Energy Week (IEW) 2023 in Bengaluru. Indian Oil claimed that the solar cooking stoves could function in both solar and hybrid modes while using grid based power.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said that the use of solar cooking stoves would help India reach its net-zero objectives by 2070. He went on to say that cooktops would be in 3 crore homes in the near future.

IEW 2023 was India's first significant G20 event, centred on the nation's shift to a greener economy.
