The Economic Times | India Energy Week: US, India to discuss Clean Energy taxation, Green Hydrogen

Feb 06,2023

New Delhi: The US Chamber of Commerce’s US-India Business Council (USIBC) said it will be leading a delegation to India Energy Week from February 6-8, 2023, in Bengaluru, India.

Hosted and led by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG), the event presents an exclusive opportunity to engage directly with senior Indian government officials, regulators, and business leaders in the energy sector, USIBC said in a statement.
The delegation will be led by Ambassador Atul Keshap, USIBC President, Shreerupa Mitra, USIBC Deputy Manging Director, Sidhanta Mehra, Director for Energy, Environment, and Infrastructure, and Raghvendra Upadhya, Director for Energy, Environment, and Infrastructure.

The delegation’s engagements include a high-level meeting with Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Housing and Urban Affairs, a roundtable on US-India Energy Transition Cooperation with MOPNG, and industry briefings and sideline meetings with officials.
"USIBC members will discuss tax frameworks to accelerate the expansion of India’s clean energy capacity, the importance of US.-India commercial partnership in bolstering innovation for new fuels like green hydrogen, and the role of Liquified Natural Gas as a transition fuel in India’s energy blend," the council said.
It added as India’s energy sector grows, the importance of a high-trust economic partnership between the United States and India is critical, and USIBC members support India’s 2030 goals of 500 GW of renewable energy, and Prime Minister Modi’s target that half the nation’s energy needs be met by clean energy sources.
“This delegation represents our membership’s commitment to India’s G20 vision, and desire to support India’s twin needs of energy security and energy transition,” said Ambassador Keshap.
Energy Week is the first event that USIBC will attend as part of its engagement with India’s G20 agenda. India is on track to become the world’s most populous country this year and is the fastest growing major economy.
