The Pioneer | E-way projects fast-tracked

With the land pooling policy being activated, the projects pertaining to major roads and flyover that were stuck up and were getting delayed are being fasttracked now. One of these held up projects was Urban Extension Road (UER)-1 (Wazirabad bypass to NH-8). This project is expected to get the requisite clearance as the land acquisition issues have been addressed.

Once completed, the 57.24-km-long UER-I stretch will be a major boost for the people of Delhi, especially those living in the rural areas and outskirts of the city. They will get an easy access to the heart of the city. Also, the stretch will help the city to unclog daily traffic snarls.

The UER projects have been divided into three sections and are part of the Delhi Master Plan-2021. However, according to the officials, these projects were delayed due encroachment and land acquisition issues. The UER project which is divided in three parts I, II and III, will connect Wazirabad bypass to National Highway (NH)-8 via covering NH-1 NH-10. The UER-II one of the longest corridors with about 70 km will connect Wazirabad bypass to NH-I, NH-10, NH-8 and NH-2 while the UER-III will provide bypass connectivity from the North Delhi to NH-I and10.

The UER-II project, the longest corridor has been transferred to National highway Authority of India (NHAI) by DDA. “The Land Pooling Policy web portal was recently launched by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has given some hopes to these long pending projects. Also, the DDA needs land to extend and construct these roads,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

The official added the construction of the UER-I that will provide a smooth and better transport facility to the people living in Singhola, Narela, Western Yamuna, Chandi road, Kanjhawala, Rajkori, Savda Ghevra, Sandeep nagar area between Mundka and Ghevra and Bhijwasan is expected to start first and soon once the outcome of Land Pooling Policy comes.

The Eastern leg of UER-I will take off from Maa Anandmayee Marg and bypass Mehrauli and Rajokri. The road will have a Right of Way (ROW) of about 100 metres.

“The areas around this section are both rural and urbanised. Once the stretch will become functional, the stretch will be a boost to economic growth to the people, especially to the villagers who will get proper transportations to the main part of the city. Further, in future the metro network can also come up along this road. Besides, it will help t reduce populations, unclog traffic congestion, reduce travel time and will help the students and employees who daily travel to and fro to Delhi and Gurugram,” said the official.

It may be noted that the land pooling policy was launched in February by Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal in February. Since the launch the policy, a total of 850 applications/registrations have been done, out of which 250 applications are registered with payments and the remaining 600 have just shown their interest by registering to the portal.
