Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of State for Housing, announced the results on Wednesday, 16 May. The survey acts a quick fact-check to understand the level of cleanliness across all cities.

Jharkhand became the best performing state in the survey this year, followed by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

This year’s survey proved to be a bit different as it accounted the response of citizens about their daily experience. It was also conducted in a whopping 4,200 cities this year, much more than the 430 cities surveyed last year.

Indore retained its ranking as the cleanest city, followed by Bhopal which has also held the position for two years in a row. Chandigarh came third, having climbed up the ladder from Rank 11.
The names of the worst performing cities will be announced the same day the awards are presented, the Minister of State for Housing said.
