The Sentinel | MoU Signed By Assam Govt And NRL On Setting Up Of 3 Bamboo Nurseries

Jan 24,2023

To establish three bamboo nurseries in the state, the Assam Government and Numaligarh Refinery Limited have inked an MoU. The MOU was signed in the presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, and Hardeep Singh Puri, the minister of petroleum for the Union.

Because bamboo farming has numerous societal advantages and is consequently referred to as "Green Gold," the Assam government opted to collaborate with NRL. Bamboo removes oxygen from the air while absorbing CO2. Bamboo is a great way to generate a carbon sink since it grows very quickly.

17 tonnes of CO2 can be absorbed annually from the air by one hectare of bamboo plantations. Three bamboo nurseries will produce saplings that may be planted on 15,000 hectares of land, resulting in the creation of a carbon sink that will absorb 2.6 lakh tonnes of CO2 each year. Hardeep Singh Puri spoke with a sizable gathering of bamboo growers after signing the MOU and advised them to take an active part in preserving the ecological balance.
