Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from UP

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has been elected unopposed in a by-poll to a Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh.

The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Manohar Parrikar, who quit as defence minister after becoming the Goa chief minister. His term was to end on November 25, 2020.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party also strengthened its position in Parliament after three of its members were elected to the Rajya Sabha, taking the number of MPs to seven.

Party leader Sanjay Singh, chartered accountant N D Gupta and educationist Sushil Gupta received a 'Certificate of Election' from the returning officer for the Rajya Sabha polls.
