Urban Development Minister Singh urges Puri to extend duration of PMAY (Urban)

Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh met Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi on Thursday. Singh requested to extend the duration of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) till March 2024. Puri said that better implementation of urban development schemes is being done in Madhya Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Minister Singh told Puri that special interest is being taken by the beneficiaries in the BLC component of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He said that in February 2022, proposals of 67 thousand 286 beneficiaries are under consideration by the Centre for approval. In the month of March also 40 thousand beneficiaries have applied for housing under BLC component, whose proposals are also being sent to the Government of India. Shri Singh requested Union Minister Shri Puri for acceptance of the proposals. Shri Puri directed the officers to approve the pending proposals of Madhya Pradesh at the earliest.

Urban Development and Housing Minister urged to give guidance on the basis of Ganga Action Plan or other experiences to keep all the rivers and water bodies of the state 100 percent free from pollution. Puri directed the officers to send a team to Madhya Pradesh to provide technical guidance in this regard.

Singh suggested setting up of a forum (class learning platform) to share the experiences of urban development of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat among themselves. While agreeing to the suggestion, Union Urban Development Minister Puri directed the concerned officers to take immediate action.

The Urban Development and Housing Minister also informed that with the continuous cooperation of the Central Government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the state has got the second position in the implementation of the scheme. At present, 6 lakh 28 thousand houses have been approved under BLC component. So far 8 lakh 68 thousand houses have been approved including all the components.
