Urban Transport News | NCRTC to complete DPR of Delhi-Meerut RRTS line expansion to Muzaffarnagar soon

Dec 06,2020

Union Minister of State, Dr. Sanjeev Balian has shown seriousness in the delay in preparing the detailed project report (DPR) after the green signal for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS project to be extended to Muzaffarnagar. On the non-preparation of DPR from Meerut to Muzaffarnagar for expansion of Rapid Rail, Dr. Balyan has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, directing the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to make DPR soon by issuing approved funds for preparing DPR.

On the proposal of Dr. Sanjeev Balyan, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had approved to extend the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Project to Muzaffarnagar in the NCR for the better development of Western UP. After this, further proceedings were started by the NCRTC under the order of the Central Government. The NCRTC prepared another report on the government's order, but the DPR is yet to be prepared on additional approval for Muzaffarnagar.

In a letter written to CM, Dr. Balyan said that the approval amount of Rs 3.82 crore for making DPR has not yet been released, due to which DPR has not been made and work on the RRTS project up to Muzaffarnagar is being delayed. It has been mentioned in the letter that Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, independent charge Hardeep Singh Puri also gave his consent for the extension of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS line up to Muzaffarnagar. The project was expected to be completed by 2025 when the proposal was passed.

The work for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor is currently ongoing for the 82 km route. To extend the corridor beyond Meerut to Muzaffarnagar, another 40 km DPR is yet to be built. For this DPR, the Union Minister of State, Dr. Sanjeev Balyan, has written a letter to the CM and issued instructions to the concerned department to make the DPR of the earliest part, and carry out further work.
