Uttar Pradesh: PM Narendra Modi takes ride in Kanpur Metro as its first passenger

Prime Minister on Tuesday inaugurated the completed section of Rail and when he boarded the Metro train at station and became the first passenger of the service.

PM Modi, who arrived in Kanpur on Tuesday morning, inaugurated the ninekm long section from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel that has been completed in a record time of two
years.

The PM, accompanied by Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri and UP Chief Minister , traveled from IIT Kanpur Metro station to the Geeta Nagar station. All the nine stations on the inaugurated Kanpur Metro line and the train too had been ornamentally decorated on the occasion. The well maintained IIT-Kanpur and Geeta Nagar Metro stations drew the attention of PM Modi who looked mesmerised and content.

PM Modi had purchased the ticket for boarding the Metro train and displayed it at the Geeta Nagar station after deboarding.

While travelling in the Metro, he was welcomed by the local people standing on their roof-tops or in their balconies and the PM also waved back at them. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also waved at the denizens.

The Metro services will be available daily from 6am to 10pm from Wednesday.

The Kanpur Metro Rail Project comprises two corridors and has a total length of 32.5 km. The first corridor from IITKanpur to Naubasta is 23.8 km long while the second one from Chandrashekhar Azad Agriculture University to Barra-8 is 8.6 km long.

The completed section of Metro inaugurated by PM is part of the first corridor.
