Swachh Survey was launched for the first time in 2016 under the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rank more than 40 cities across India on cleanliness standards with the objective of providing waste management and toilet facilities. In these surveys, Ahmedabad city was ranked 14th in 2016 and 2017 and 12th in 2018 among cities across India.

In Swachh Survey held in the year-2019, Ahmedabad was the cleanest metropolis among the cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs across India and in Swachh Survey-2020 also, Ahmedabad received the award of the cleanest megacity in the country among the cities with a population of more than 40 lakhs.

Garbage free star rating, segregation, processing, door to door collection of waste, transportation and processing of wet waste, recycling of dry waste, soil reclamation and recycling of debris, biomining, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India last year.
