Zee Business | Covid-19 Vaccine India Update: First Coronavirus vaccine movement begins; 4 airlines to fly 56.5 lakh doses from Pune to 13 cities today, says Hardeep Puri

After a long wait for the Coronavirus vaccine roll out in India, the first Covishield vaccine movement has begun from Pune's Serum Institute of India (SII). The Union Minister for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri said today that four airlines will operate nine flights to transport 56.5 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Pune to 13 cities across the country on Tuesday.

Hardeep Singh Puri informed about the Covid-19 Vaccine movement from his official twitter handle that reads, "Civil aviation sector launches yet another momentous mission. Vaccine movement starts. First two flights operated by @flyspicejet & @goairlinesindia from Pune to Delhi & Chennai have taken off."

Puri went on to add, "Today @airindiain, @flyspicejet, @goairlinesindia, & @IndiGo6E, will operate 9 flights from Pune with 56.5 lakh doses to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow & Chandigarh."

The first flight carrying Covishield vaccine is expected to arrive from Pune to Delhi around 10 AM. Spicejet’s flight SG 8937 is ferrying the first doses of the Covid-19 vaccines to Delhi.

SpiceJet confirmed the Pune to Delhi consignment from its official twitter handle and said, "SpiceJet is proud to begin transporting India’s first consignment of #COVID19vaccine today. Pictured here is the first consignment of #Covishield arriving from Pune to Delhi on SpiceJet flight 8937. We are committed towards timely commencement of this historic vaccination drive."
