ZEE Business | PM Narendra Modi interacts with beneficiaries of PM-SVANidhi scheme, praises street vendors for ensuring cleanliness

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with the beneficiaries of PM-SVANidhi scheme and encouraged all those who have used the scheme to establish a new business. The interaction was done through a video call. The interaction was also attended by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The prime minister urged the small vendors to use digital modes of payments as much as possible. He also urged them to stop using plastic. PM Modi was full of praises for these vendors for maintaining cleanliness.

He said that all these street vendors were the most hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. The prime minister said that as people stopped going out, street vendors didn’t have too many customers.  

He added that the PM-SVANidhi scheme was launched to ensured that all these people are able to recover and restart their business. He said that this is the first time that street vendors have been put together under a structure.

“It is important that all vendors are educated by the scheme so that they can avail the benefits,” PM said.

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs in April had launched the online dashboard of the PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme. It was launched by Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Housing and Urban Affairs through video conferencing.

"The online dashboard is dynamic, interactive and would provide a one stop solution to all stakeholders looking for information and tracking monitoring of progress of PM SVANidhi up to city level," a statement had read.  

Since the commencement of online submission of applications on PM SVANidhi portal on July 2, 2020, more than 7.15 lakh applications have been received and over 1.70 lakh have been sanctioned in different States and UTs, the Housing and Urban Affairs ministry informed.
